Outdoor Warning Siren Systems

A Warning System You Can Trust

In the first 9 months of 2020, the NOAA recorded 16 weather/climate disasters totaling over $1 billion dollars in damage each, tying 2011 and 2017 for the highest annual number of disaster events affecting the United States. Of those, 11 involved severe weather, hail, or tornadoes.

In these times of uncertainty and increasing weather severity, communities need reliable warning systems.

We Will Guide You Through The Process From Start To Finish

System Design and Coverage Mapping

Our team has extensive experience designing the optimum warning siren system for your community - our complimentary siren site design service will take away the guesswork. We look at topography, foliage, population centers, infrastructure, and a host of other factors to help you determine the best siren model and installation location to protect  your community.

The Sentry Difference

In the 25+ years that we have been servicing most makes and models of storm warning sirens, we have noticed a few things, like rotating sirens only provide coverage in a certain direction a few times per minute. Or that the most common complaint is that the rotating aspect is often the first thing to break down and is expensive to repair.

All Sentry siren are omni-directional; with only two moving parts, Sentry sirens provide 360 degree coverage 100% of the time. Even FEMA has recognized the superiority of omni-directional sirens:

"Omni-directional sirens provide greater area coverage than do rotating or directional devices. They provide a more constant signal that improves public alerting in areas with highly fluctuating ambient noise, along with the reinforcing effect of multiple sound sources."

Outdoor Warning System Technical Bulletin 4.1 - General Considerations for Outdoor Warning Systems, page 28

"In situations where there are high fluctuations in the ambient noise level. or near the limits of the audible device range, omni-directional devices present a distinct advantage, in terms of their signal consistency, over rotational devices."

FEMA Outdoor Warning Systems Technical Bulletin 4.4.5 - Determining Locations Where Outdoor PAS Devices Should Be Avoided, page 32

Since 1905, Sentry Siren has specialized in producing the industry's finest omni-directional, electro-mechanical outdoor warning sirens.

AC/DC Battery Backup Sirens

The Sentry Model 16V1T-B, Model 14V-B, and Model 7V8-B normally run from 230 VAC, single phase electrical service; however, if your community were to lose power, these sirens would then automatically switch to their banks of rechargeable batteries which will run the sirens for a cumulative time 30 minutes.

Standard AC Only Sirens

These sirens run directly from AC power.  Most models are available in single phase and three phase electrical service.  AC sirens are recommended for areas where severe weather does not usually cause power outages.  Small AC only sirens are sometimes paired with generators.

DC Only Sirens

Sentry's DC primary / battery primary warning siren is the model 3V8-H-B. Featuring minimal power requirements and 30 minutes of battery run time, the 3V8-H-B provides UPS reliability at a fraction of the cost of many battery backup siren systems.

Lightning Detection

Sirens For Cities is also an authorized distributor and installer for Boltek lightning detection hardware and software.

Boltek's long-range lightning detectors are helpful for advance planning, and can track and display lightning storms in real time on a PC or laptop up to 300 miles away.

Boltek's short-range EFM-100 lightning detector is used for alerting of nearby thunderstorms (up to 24 miles/38 km away) and also has the ability to detect high electric-field conditions which precede the first lightning strike. For close lightning strikes the EFM-100’s accuracy is unsurpassed.
